Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi JSC’s First Coal Concentration Module to Operate at Full Capacity in December

Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi JSC is undertaking a project to construct a coal concentration plant consisting of three modules, each with a capacity of 10 million tonnes. In 2024, the first 10 million-tonne coal concentration module was received. The initial 20,000 tonnes of coal from this module were beneficiated in October.

Trial production will continue throughout October and November, with full-capacity operations scheduled to commence in December. The remaining two modules are expected to be commissioned in 2026.

The first coal-washing module will produce two types of products: coking coal and thermal coal. Annually, approximately 680,000 tonnes of thermal coal is planned for enrichment to supply Tavan Tolgoi Fuel LLC. Once fully operational, the plant will process 10 million tonnes of concentrated coal, yielding 8 million tonnes of coking coal and 2 million tonnes of thermal coal.

During the “Mineral Processing-2024” event, Processing engineer M. Lkhagvadorj noted that any surplus energy coal beyond Ulaanbaatar’s needs will be exported through the exchange.
