For our vision of providing insights to with confidence, we stood tall when picking the name for our magazine. MSight will always strive to be a reliable information source for Mongolia’s mining and economy. 2022 marks a celebratory year for Mongolia’s history in the minerals sector.
It will be the 100th anniversary of the founding of modern mining sector development in Mongolia. Several conspicuous events are expected as the hallmark of its commemoration. New projects will become operational and more productions are sure to follow. Novel understandings and unfamiliar terms are expected in the coming year. As an onlooker of this transformation and change, MSight will always be open for discussion in print. Topics such as climate change, energy transition, green recovery commitments, technological progress, new demand for commodities, essential minerals, and the evolution these will bring shall be priority topics for our magazine.
A multitude of bills submitted for discussion in parliament next year will involve the minerals sector relations. In line with the amendments to the Constitution, foundations were laid for legal reform of the industry as a whole in 2021. Revision to the Minerals Law and follow-up bills, and draft Laws on Treasury Fund, Mining Commodity Exchange, Heavy Industry, and Transparency of Minerals sector are on the table for parliament. The enactment of these laws could bring several fundamental reforms to the minerals sector of Mongolia. Any changes in the legislation should focus on adopting efficient mining operations. Therefore, MSight has focused on these upcoming bills in its first edition. 2022 will be another year of unprecedented challenges for the country. The coronavirus pandemic has had mostly positive impacts on the commodity markets. Although this should be a good sign for the country’s economy, preventive measures caused disruptions to mineral exports, often leading to the risk of a complete halt.
